AWARD-WINNING ARTERRA AT MARRIOTT DEL MAR PASSES THE REIGNS TO NEW CHEF DE CUISINE
Southern California Seasonal Cuisine Restaurant Promotes Jason Maitland to head the kitchen for both the acclaimed Restaurant and new Outdoor Lounge

(San Diego, CA) – San Diego’s award-winning Arterra Restaurant, Bar and Outdoor Lounge recently named Jason Maitland new chef de cuisine. Specializing in contemporary cuisine, each Arterra dish stands by the restaurant’s “art of the earth” roots— featuring local, seasonal and finest farm-fresh produce and proteins.

A graduate of the New England Culinary School in Vermont, Maitland has been an integral part of the Arterra kitchen since the restaurant’s opening in January 2002. Joining the staff as junior sous chef, Maitland quickly became promoted to executive sous chef under Brian Pekarcik.  With Pekarcik’s recent decision to return to his hometown of Pittsburgh, where he now heads the kitchen at The Marriott City Center, Maitland was the perfect choice to take over the reigns and continue to build Arterra’s reputation for inspired, unique and modern cuisine.

“Jason is an exceptionally talented chef and we’re proud to say he’s been with Arterra Restaurant since its inception,” said Arterra’s general manager Tom Mastricola. “His true art is his instinctive understanding of the natural flavors found in fresh, seasonal flavors and in allowing the ingredients to speak for themselves. While he is a veteran in Arterra’s kitchen his youth brings a consistently fresh perspective and each dish he creates never fails to amaze our guests.”

Maitland’s personal touch is already evidenced in Arterra’s new fall menu, highlighting the finest of the season with dishes such as Chino Farms Beet Tasting (featuring four different preparations of fresh, organic beets prepared as a chilled soup with/ citrus foam, roasted& pickled with/ shaved fennel, carpaccio, and tartare – all complimented with fresh citrus) and Crispy Skin Artic Char served with a curried white lentil puree, creamy forest mushroom bread pudding and apple-celery root slaw in a curry vinaigrette.  The fall menu also features special holiday cocktails and spirits, including a mission fig and vanilla infused Pumpkin Trace bourbon.

Located in the San Diego Marriott Del Mar, Arterra offers an elegant, yet comfortable, space while providing guests with spacious indoor private dining and meeting rooms, as well as cabanas accompanied by heated lamps on the outdoor patio overlooking California’s rolling hills.
