JASON MAITLAND - EXECUTIVE CHEF
Although recently named Executive Chef (
Press Release), Jason Maitland is very comfortable in
the Arterra kitchen. Having been a member of the culinary arts team since it’s
January 2002 opening, Maitland has been integral in Arterra’s success over the
past five years.
A graduate of the New England Culinary School in Vermont, Maitland was lured
west by the prospects of beautiful beaches, sunshine and farm fresh produce.
Joining Arterra as junior sous chef, Maitland was quickly promoted to executive
sous chef and in 2007 became the perfect choice to take over the reigns and
continue to build Arterra’s reputation for inspired, unique and modern cuisine.
With an instinctive understanding of the natural flavors inherent in all foods,
Maitland’s art lies in allowing the ingredients to speak for themselves without
unnecessarily overcomplicating the plate. He brings a young, vibrant and
consistently fresh perspective to his menus for both the Arterra Restaurant and
their new Outdoor Lounge.
When asked who sparked his passion for the art of cooking, Maitland will tell
you it was a doctor. His father, a doctor by day, loved to prepare unique dishes
at home with his family and from an early age Maitland was inquisitive in the
kitchen.
When he’s not in the kitchen or in the dining room mixing with guests six days a
week, Maitland often spends time leafing through cookbooks, gathering
inspiration and trying unique pairings of his favorite dishes’ ingredients,
which sometimes become the delectable items available on his Arterra menus.
